Ed Penniman Design
Design and Marketing Director, Soquel

I have been acting as a design, marketing and advertising consultant to Santa Cruz Memorial Park, Bargetto Winery, Hunter Hill Winery, Rancho Sierra Foods, RS Hughes Corp. and several other local and regional companies. My work includes stratigic planning of marketing and design development of corporate identity and branded products, I work closely with my clients and my consulting work is primarily by referral.

1983-1991
National Semiconductor Corporation
Corporate Graphics Manager, Santa Clara

National hired me to head the graphics department and manage the corporate identity and projects for the major divisions. My scope of work entailed tracking the progress of over 450 active projects in various stages of completion. The graphics budget exceeded four million dollars. This included materials from various high quality sales support materials to sales motivation slide presentations.

I participated in creative direction of national advertising for some product groups, various technical newsletters, trade show exhibits, sales incentive programs and themes, employee training, motivation and quality standards achievement. I assisted in the planning and design of the annual report as a sign design system for corporate and world wide implementation

1976-1983
Penniman Title Company, Inc.
Marketing and Advertising Director, Santa Cruz

I served on the Board of Directors of this family owned and operated title insurance company. My charge was to create business for the Escrow Officers and the Subdivision Department. I organized continuing education programs for Realtors, created marketing, promotional and advertising programs for the company with the goal of increasing market share. My activities included planning and executing many public relations events as well as some direct contact sales experience. I resigned and moved on to National Semiconductor Corporation. The family business was closed after the Loma Prieta earthquake and the title plant sold to a competitor.

1970-1976
Ed Penniman and Associates, Advertising Design
Design and Creative Director, Santa Cruz

My company was the first design office in Santa Cruz with a full time staff including two designers, a production artist, an account representative and office manager. We created many award winning design and advertising pieces. I was featured in Communication Arts magazine for the work we produced. Our client list included Weyerhauser, Castle and Cooke, Pacific Plantronics, Del Monte Properties, Measurex Corporation, Bargetto Winery, Salz Tannery and many others.

We produced product and service literature, point of sale materials, exhibit design for national trade shows, package design and corporate identity programs. In those few years we completed over fifty medium sized identity programs.

1968-1970
S & O Consultants, Marketing Design
Design Director, San Francisco

Initially I was hired to head up a new department which would focus on creating corporate identity programs. This division called Impact never was developed so I did what corporate identity work the company had and focused on national and international package design development. My work included multi-lingual packaging design presentations and art direction of food photography.

I developed corporate identity materials for Bank of America subsidiaries, Breuners Furniture, Bell Savings and Loan Association, and some other smaller entities.

My packaging design work included wine label work for Lejon Brandy, Inglenook and Italian Swiss Colony Wine. Product line design work included XLNT, Ore-Ida, and Ocoma Frozen Foods lines.

1967-1968
Robert Miles Runyan and Associates,
Design Design Director, Los Angeles

Essentially my work included corporate identity, sign system design, annual reports, product catalogs, collateral materials and some special projects. Clients served were Lytton Industries, Republic Corporation, Teledyne Corporation, Kauffman and Broad, Inc., Isbransen Steamship Lines and Whittaker Corporation.

1965-1967
Ogelvy-Mather
Advertising Art Director, Los Angeles

Responsible for advertising concepts, art direction of magazine and TV advertisements. Clients included at that time Mattel Toys, Baskin-Robbins, Max Factor, Cole of California, Hartog Sportswear, White Stag Sportswear, Jansen Sportswear, Renaud Sunglasses, Rainier Beer, Nalley's Fine Foods, Tillie Lewis Diet Foods, Singer Sewing Machines and Hawaiin Cement Corporation. The difference is memorable.
